About Us

The building is called the Gibson House, but it is actually known on the National Historic Register as the FlatIron Building. Named after the first skyscraper in New York City that is bordered on two sides by streets looks like an old fashioned flat iron. It was designed narrower at the front of the building and wider at the rear.

The old Gibson House Hotel once greeted visitors as they stepped off the passenger train across the street; people who came to experience the healing waters that gave the town its name. In addition to the guestrooms on the first and second floors, the basement of the 1911 hotel housed the hotel's German kitchen along with a cobbler shop.

The FlatIron Building (or Gibson House) was completely refurbished beginning in 2001.

Wind Cave Park / Custer / Keystone Hill City / Hwy 385 North:
Enter Hot Springs on Hwy 385/Battle Mountain Rd. Take a LEFT at the Corner of Battle Mountain Rd/North River Street. Go about 1 block. The FlatIron will be on your LEFT.

Rapid City/ I-90 / Highway 79 North
Travel South on Hwy 79. Take a RIGHT at Maverick Junction onto Highway 385 North/Hwy 18 West & drive 5 miles to Hot Springs. Follow Hwy 385 through town (Other Street Names: Fall River Rd-Chicago-Turns LEFT onto Jennings-Curves RIGHT onto North River Street). FlatIron will be on your RIGHT after the Depot Information Center.

Wyoming / Highway 18 West
Travel East on Highway 18. Enter Hot Springs and take Highway 18 Business Route/ University Ave. (STRAIGHT)
When hit the Stoplight in downtown Hot Springs (Corner of University & Chicago), take a LEFT & go 1 block.
Take a RIGHT onto Jennings Ave / Hwy 385 for 1 block & follow curve RIGHT onto North River Street.
FlatIron will be on your RIGHT after the Depot Information Center.
